BARBIE'S BIRTHDAY

 today is Barbie's birthday. Ruth Handler created the
Barbie doll on this date in 1959, naming her after her
daughter Barbara. Trivia fans: Barbie is from Willows, Wis.,
and attended Willows High School, she has had more than 108
careers, and Barbie and Ken broke up on Valentine's Day in
2004 after 43 years together. But they're still "friends." ;-)

 today is Growth and Prosperity Da. The number 3 in
Chinese rhymes with the word "growth" and the number 8 rhymes
with the Chinese word for prosperity. Thus, the eighth day of
the third month is an auspicious time for beginning new
projects destined for growth and prosperity.

WE ARE THE WORLD

  today is We Are the World Release Day. The record "We
Are the World" was released to provide relief to Africans
suffering from famine. Artists who helped record the song
included: Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny
Rogers, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross,
Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Huey Lewis,
Cyndi Lauper, Ray Charles... just to name a few. ;-)

SIT UP RECORD DAY

 today is World Sit-Up Record Day. In 2002, Edmar
Freitas, a Brazilian weight-training instructor, completed
111,000 sit-ups in 24 hours to break the former record of
103,000 set by American champion Bill Evans. In 2003, he
reportedly broke his own record by 6 hours and nearly 23,000
sit-ups, for a total of 133,986 in 30 hours. Wow!

today is the birthday of the Three-Cent Coin. In 1851,
the U.S. Congress authorized the silver three-cent piece,
perhaps, some have said, the most useless American coin ever!
