... that today is Female Justice Day? On this day in 1981,
Sandra Day O'Connor was sworn in as the first female justice
on the Supreme Court. Trivia fans: Akron v Akron Center for
Reproductive Health was her first case on the Supreme Court.
The case was much anticipated because no one knew how a woman
justice would vote.

Did you know...

... that today is Lipton's Birthday? On his birthday in 1871,
Thomas J. Lipton opened his first food shop, the beginning of
the Lipton grocery store chain and later, in 1890, the Lipton
Tea Company.

 today is Japanese Flower Festival (Hanamatsuri) Day.
This Japanese festival celebrates the birth of Siddhartha
Gautama. "Hana" means "flower" in Japanese, and "matsuri"
means "festival," so Hanamatsuri means "flower festival."

 today is My Fair Lady Da. In 1956, the musical "My
Fair Lady" premiered in New York City starring Rex Harrison
and Julie Andrews. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play
"Pygmalion," it was one of the most successful musicals in

BARBIE'S BIRTHDAY

 today is Barbie's birthday. Ruth Handler created the
Barbie doll on this date in 1959, naming her after her
daughter Barbara. Trivia fans: Barbie is from Willows, Wis.,
and attended Willows High School, she has had more than 108
careers, and Barbie and Ken broke up on Valentine's Day in
2004 after 43 years together. But they're still "friends." ;-)

 today is Growth and Prosperity Da. The number 3 in
Chinese rhymes with the word "growth" and the number 8 rhymes
with the Chinese word for prosperity. Thus, the eighth day of
the third month is an auspicious time for beginning new
projects destined for growth and prosperity.

  today is We Are the World Release Day. The record "We
Are the World" was released to provide relief to Africans
suffering from famine. Artists who helped record the song

SIT UP RECORD DAY

 today is World Sit-Up Record Day. In 2002, Edmar
Freitas, a Brazilian weight-training instructor, completed
111,000 sit-ups in 24 hours to break the former record of
103,000 set by American champion Bill Evans. In 2003, he
reportedly broke his own record by 6 hours and nearly 23,000
sit-ups, for a total of 133,986 in 30 hours. Wow!

today is the birthday of the Three-Cent Coin. In 1851,
the U.S. Congress authorized the silver three-cent piece,
perhaps, some have said, the most useless American coin ever!

The first tunnel under the Nile River was completed on March
2, 1998. The tunnel was dug to make room for a subway to run
under the Nile between the different sections of the city of
Cairo, Egypt.

Truffes? In 1784, Jean-Joseph Clause, a French pastry chef,
received a patent for his pate de foie gras aux truffes. He
went on to begin his own business specializing in supplying

... that today is the birthday of the Mardi Gras in New
Orleans? The first Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans was
held in 1827. The traditional colors of Mardi Gras are purple
(symbolic of justice), green (symbolic of faith) and gold

... that today is the birthday of the Grand Teton National
Park? In 1929, President Coolidge signed the Act that created
the Grand Teton National Park. Trivia buffs: The park
encompasses approximately 310,000 acres of wilderness,

trails for hikers to enjoy.
